Caution
Before you connect the device, first read the Safety instructions.
Charging the battery
Charge the built-in battery before you use the device for the first time or if you haven’t used it for an extended time period.
If the battery is completely discharged and your device turns off, allow the battery to charge for a while before you turn on the device.
The device should be charged every 6 months even when not used, to prevent the battery from completely draining (deep discharge).
The SpeechMike Ambient is charged by plugging it into a computer. However, if you turn off the computer, it may no longer charge. Some computers offer USB ports that still provide power when turned off; these are marked with a lightning bolt or a small tick. We recommend to use these when plugging in the SpeechMike Ambient or docking station. If this is unavailable, you can use a powered USB hub instead.
Charge via docking station
Connect the docking station to a computer.
Insert the SpeechMike Ambient and the wireless adapter into the docking station.
Note
Make sure that you insert the SpeechMike Ambient all the way to ensure its properly locked in place.

Learn about the battery status
Immediately after turning the SpeechMike Ambient on, the display indicates the battery status.

Tip
You can always check the battery status of your SpeechMike Ambient by shortly pressing the Power button.
Turn the device on and off
To turn the device on:
Shortly place the device into the docking station or press and hold the Power button for about 3 seconds.
X The SpeechMike Ambient display turns itself on.
To turn the device off:
Press and hold the Power button for about 3 seconds.
X The SpeechMike Ambient display turns itself off.
Pairing
Once you have connected your SpeechMike Ambient to a wireless adapter, you can dictate wirelessly and use the dictation microphone on different workstations without any further pairing effort.
Pair the SpeechMike Ambient and the wireless adapter in the docking station
Connect the docking station to your computer.
Insert the SpeechMike Ambient and the wireless adapter into the docking station.
Press the link button on the docking station.
The pairing process starts.
X When pairing is finished, the connection LED on the SpeechMike Ambient and on the wireless adapter glow blue.
Pair the SpeechMike Ambient and the wireless adapter
You can also pair the SpeechMike Ambient and the wireless adapter directly without the docking station:
Insert the wireless adapter into the USB-C port of the SpeechMike Ambient.
Hold the Command and the End-of-letter/priority button for 3 seconds.
X When pairing is finished, the connection LED on the SpeechMike Ambient and on the wireless adapter glow blue.
Remove the wireless adapter from the SpeechMike Ambient.
Connect the wireless adapter to your computer.
X Once reconnected, the connection LED on the SpeechMike Ambient and on the wireless adapter glow blue.
Learn about wireless technology
The SpeechMike Ambient uses Bluetooth wireless technology to establish a connection between the dictation microphone and the wireless adapter / docking station.
The Bluetooth connection doesn't require that the SpeechMike Ambient and the wireless adapter / docking station be in line of sight. However, the maximum distance between the SpeechMike Ambient and the wireless adapter should not be more than 25 meters (82 feet). The closer the devices are to each other, the better is the performance. The connection is subject to interference from distance and obstructions or other electronic devices.
Note
If you encounter connection interferences, make sure to keep a minimum distance of 50 cm (18 inches) between the docking station and other wireless devices, such as smartphones or laptops. If the distance is less than 50 cm (18 inches), there might be interferences between the docking station and other wireless devices.
Going out of range
When the wireless connection is lost, the SpeechMike Ambient says No connection, the connection LED glows red and on the display the Bluetooth symbol is crossed out.
In this case, move closer to the docking station to reenter the reception area.

X The connection is reestablished.
X The SpeechMike Ambient says Connection established, the connection LED glows blue and on the display the Bluetooth symbol is no longer crossed out.
Idle mode
After 4 minutes of inactivity, the SpeechMike Ambient automatically enters idle mode and the connection LED flashes blue. To reactivate the device, simply lift it up or press any button.
If the SpeechMike Ambient is not used for more than 10 hours, it automatically turns off to save battery life. To turn the device on again, shortly place it into the docking station or press the Power button until the display turns on.
Note
In idle mode, the connection between the SpeechMike Ambient and the docking station is temporarily interrupted. When you reactivate the SpeechMike Ambient by lifting it up, the connection is immediately reestablished.

Locate your SpeechMike Ambient
If there are several SpeechMike Ambient in the room and you don't know which SpeechMike Ambient is connected to your computer, or you want to locate your SpeechMike Ambient quickly you can use SpeechControl:
Download and install the latest version of SpeechControl (Philips Device Control Center) from https://www.dictation.philips.com/speechcontrol.
Start Philips Device Control Center:
If the option to start the Philips Device Control Center automatically was selected during installation, open the program by clicking the
icon in the notification area of the Windows task bar.To manually start the program, open the Windows start menu in Windows and select Philips Speech Control > Philips Device Control Center.
On the Troubleshooter tab, click on the Identify device button on the right side.
X The currently connected SpeechMike Ambient will beep shortly.
Resetting the wireless connection
If you should encounter problems with your device, for example, the SpeechMike Ambient doesn't respond or doesn't connect to the wireless adapter in the docking station, you can reset the wireless connection.
Disconnect the docking station from your computer.
X All LEDs on the docking station are off now.
Press the Power button on the SpeechMike Ambient for about 5 seconds.
Connect the docking station to your computer.
Insert the SpeechMike Ambient and the wireless adapter into the docking station.
Press the link button on the docking station.
The pairing process starts.
X When pairing is finished, the connection LED on the SpeechMike Ambient and on the wireless adapter glow blue.
