The operating system stops responding after restart.

Using the Philips SpeechMike together with certain USB hubs may cause the operating system to stop responding when the computer is started.

Unplug the SpeechMike before starting the computer and reconnect it afterwards. We recommend replacing the USB hub or connecting your SpeechMike directly to the USB port of the computer.

The SpeechMike is completely without function

Some computer providers limit the output power of USB ports to 100mA. These ports may not provide enough power for the SpeechMike to function properly.

  • Use the supplied power supply unit.

  • Connect the SpeechMike via a self-powered hub.

The SpeechMike is connected to the computer but sound will play on the computer’s speaker only

Windows can support more than one playback device at a time. However, if you disable the device for playback, it is also disabled for recording.

Change the playback settings via Start > Control Panel > Sound > Playback or right-click the speaker icon on your toolbar and select Playback devices.

After finishing a dictation in the speech recognition recorder, I don’t see my finished dictations.

Dictations finished in the speech recognition recorder, are saved in the Archive folder. However, the Archive folder is hidden by default.

To display the Archive folder in the folder tree, click Settings > General settings on the menu bar and select Work list > Folders from the list on the left side. Select Archive and change the Visible option to Yes.

I cannot see the Outbox folder.

The Outbox folder is hidden by default.

To display the Outbox folder in the Folder tree, click Settings > General settings on the menu bar and select Work list > Folders from the list on the left side. Select Outbox and change the Visible option to Yes.

Sending dictations via Gmail no longer works.

The login requirements of Gmail changed.

Please use a different email provider or switch to SpeechLive if you want to continue using Gmail.

Logging

In SpeechExec, you can log events that occur during running the application. These events include errors and various other information that is related to the behavior of the SpeechExec components. By logging events, you can collect information that you can send to Customer Support to help you with an issue.

To start the Log Tool:

  1. Navigate to the folder where you installed SpeechExec. By default, this is a subfolder of the c:\Program Files\Philips Speech\ directory. For example, if you have SpeechExec Pro Dictate installed, then you find the Log Tool in the c:\Program Files\Philips Speech\SpeechExec Pro Dictate directory.

  2. Run SpeechExecLogTool.exe.

There are three levels of logging events:

  • Error: This is the basic level where only errors are collected in a log file.

  • Info: This level contains errors and some other basic information about the behavior of the application.

  • Debug: This level includes the logging of error messages as well as detailed information on all events that occur in SpeechExec, such as converting a dictation or exiting the application.

At the top of the screen, you can select the installed SpeechExec module in which you want to log events. After selecting the level of logging for the components, click Apply to save your changes. If you want to turn off logging completely, click Disable all.

By clicking the Configuration Info button, you can check where the system and user configuration files are stored. It also provides you with information on whether these configuration files are stored locally on your computer or at a central location.

You can also change the path where you want to store your SpeechExec logfiles. To make logging easier, it is possible to use the following placeholders for defining a path:

  • With the %SPEXECAPPDATA% placeholder you can save the log files to the SpeechExec application data folder.

  • With %TEMP% you can save the logfiles to your temporary folder (c:\WINDOWS\Temp by default). Notice however that you can only use this placeholder at the beginning of the path.

  • Finally, with the %EXEFILENAME% placeholder, you can create separate log files for each SpeechExec application that you use. In this way, the logfile will not be overwritten when you start a different application.

When you are done with your selections, click Send log files. You can select additional SpeechExec and Dragon NaturallySpeaking log files to send to support by clicking Add log files and Add Dragon log files respectively. If you want to attach a comprehensive list of your hardware, system components, and software environment (MSINFO32) to your SpeechExec log, click Collect system information on the Send SpeechExec log files page and wait until your system information is collected. When logs are collected, click Send selected log files to e-mail those files.
